Project Description

This project focused on reconciliation, peacebuilding targeting people from different backgrounds to consolidate and build a bridge of peace and reconciliation between them. Also, this project took place in Sinjar district, which sought to provide youth with life skills in peacebuilding, decision making, problem-solving, critical and creative thinking and effective communication, to be pace ambassador. Also, to strengthen leadership skills and capacitate them as young peace markers, through Art, Music, Theatre/Poetry. The courses targeted to graduate 144 participants each course consists of 48 participants from different backgrounds, to disseminate peace, cooperation, coexistence, and acceptance in the community.

Initiatives:

Community initiatives are the creation of opportunities to enable all community member to actively contribute and influence the evolvement process, while sharing equitably in the development filed. Community initiatives allow participants to act and respond to public concerns, empower them to openly give their views about decisions that affect them and to actively take responsibility for changes in their community. Community initiatives help youth to creatively develop skills and build competencies and capacities within communities. This empowers youth to put emphasis on problem solving, and promote self-confidence and self-sufficiency, partnership and respecting coexistence our participants took the step to conduct the following initiatives:

– Constructing wash facilities in Jagarxun School.
– Planting trees in Sinjar secondary school.
– planting trees in Are, Kurdish school
– Planting trees 80 tresses on a public street and protecting it by a fence.

Awareness-raising:

Through the project awareness is raised on different topics to develop community and support for changes in the society; it has been shown to change knowledge and attitudes about to better ones. The awareness topics focused on tangible issues that are most relevant to the lives of community members. Awareness has been conducted door to door and in many public places in the community like schools in order to aware community of different prominent issues. Since the participants of the project’s skills are being developed they transfer their knowledge through an awareness campaign to the community. The participants have done awareness on the followings:

– Child rights.
– Conflict and peacebuilding campaign.
– Peaceful coexistence.
– Panting phrases related to peacebuilding on Jagarxun school’s wall
– Panting phrases related to peacebuilding on Are elementary school’s wall.

 

Music course:

Youth are encouraged to declare their conceptions using music as a clue for their inner emotions. 48 participants are taught about music elements and notes, basics of music playing on musical instruments. Also, subjects like peacebuilding, conflict, violence, abuse are explained for participants to deviate such cases and know how to deal with them in case they faced those matters. Participants are introduced to friends from different backgrounds to spread friendship. Youth are stimulated to be peace ambassador in the community.

 

Theatre course:

Youth’s feelings and conceptions are very successfully made clear and enhanced through theatre/poetry, this course is targeting 48 participants. In this course types of theatre, types of poems, theatre elements, plays and their objectives, the concept of peacebuilding and community initiatives, violence and abuse are explained. Participants are encouraged to be peace ambassadors. And know the profound meaning of peace in the community. they are taught about conducting community initiatives.

 

Art course:

 Youth in Sinjar have momentous impact on overall community, significantly peace is explained to be spread in the community. 48 participants are targeted through this course, to express their ideas and thoughts. They are taught on types on portraits, types of paintings, types of dyes, peace building, community initiatives, violence and abuse and conflict resolution. Participants are asked towards better and brighter future; they are supported to have acceptance and be peace ambassador.
